NATURALLY MADE IN OHIO, OUR CRUSH-RESISTANT PROPPANTS ARE THE "GOLD STANDARD" FOR FRACKING OPERATIONS

FRAC SAND

Frac sand plays an integral role in onshore oil and gas production. Hydraulic fracturing, commonly known as “fracking,” involves a deep well drilling process that unlocks these natural resources trapped in tight impermeable shale formations thousands of feet below the ground’s surface.

Water and sand mixtures are injected into wells at high pressures to create small fractures in the shale, stimulating the production of oil and natural gas. The frac sand acts as a “proppant” because it props these tiny fractures open, allowing oil and gas to flow out to the head of the well where it can be captured and later refined.

What’s so special about frac sand?

Frac sand is a naturally occurring silica quartz sand that is highly durable and crush resistant, making it an ideal proppant for demanding hydraulic fracturing operations. The round shape of frac sand enables it to be carried in hydraulic fluid with little turbulence. In addition, frac sand features a uniform composition that allows water, oil, and gas to flow between individual grains without clogging the fractured rock.

Proppant size also influences the integrity of newly created fractures and well productivity. Frac sand is measured in American Standard Test Sieve Series (ASTM) sizes. R.W. Sidley’s Ohio Gold line of frac sand, gets its name from its gold color, includes a variety of common, course, and fine mesh sizes to meet required specifications.
